Recent estimates value the global ‘casual game’ market at around £2.23 billion per year. (For the less technologically-minded, a ‘casual game’ is a type of computer game most often played online; they are always accessible, often quite short, and offer constant rewards). When two computer game design graduates from Newport University learnt of such an exciting financial incentive, they launched plans for their own independent studios.

Stay up to date with today’s rapidly changing technology – be the first to know about advances, cashing in on them rather than catching up with them.

Jamie and Codey’s first port of call was Business Support Wales as they’d heard about the free business advice on offer. "To be honest," says Codey, "we were pretty naive. The Graduate Start-Up workshops were exactly what we needed to get us started". Having grasped the basics about tax and cash flow, the design duo were allocated a business advisor who helped them work up a detailed business plan and apply for a Graduate Start-Up bursary.

"The funding was vital. Without it we wouldn’t be where we are today" - and that is putting the finishing touches to their very first design, Seed Pod Shuffle™ and developing relationships with several large online distributors.

"Both of us always had a passion for game design but it’d been more of an interest than a vocation. When we realised the potential rewards we knew it was time to convert our hobby into a business!"
