In 2006, at the age of 18, I became a mother. Despite the challenges that came with being a teenage mum, I was determined to defy the stereotype and set a strong example for my son. I dreamed of owning my own business to achieve the best balance of work and family life possible.
To realise this dream, I dedicated over a decade to gaining the necessary experience and education. In 2017, I proudly graduated from the Business School at the University of South Wales. Armed with knowledge and ambition, I founded LCVA Services Ltd in February 2018.
What started as a solo venture with a vision, a laptop, and a mobile phone, has grown significantly. Driven by determination and a passion for success, LCVA Services has quadrupled in size since its inception, consistently exceeding monthly and annual targets.
- Starting LCVA Services Ltd from the ground up presented its own set of challenges. In the early days, I had to juggle multiple roles, from business development to client management, all while ensuring the highest standards of service. One of the significant hurdles was acquiring the necessary business acumen and experience to grow the company sustainably. I dedicated time to learning and upskilling, which included completing my degree from the Business School at the University of South Wales in 2017.
- Another major challenge was building and managing a team of remote workers. Coordinating a dispersed team required implementing robust communication and project management systems to maintain productivity and cohesion. Through trial and error, I developed strategies to foster a collaborative culture despite the physical distance, ensuring every team member felt connected and valued.
- To add to these challenges, the business was set up off the back of my redundancy with £0 in the bank. This experience underscored the importance of resourcefulness and strategic financial planning. Overcoming these obstacles has not only strengthened the foundation of LCVA Services but has also positioned us as a flexible and innovative player in the industry.
- My inspiration came from two sources. First, my son. Becoming a mother at 18, I was determined to break the stereotype of being a teenage mum and show him that with perseverance and hard work, anything is possible. I wanted to set the best example for him and create a future where work and family life could be balanced harmoniously.
- Second, my drive to create something meaningful and impactful fuelled my ambition. I saw a gap in the market for a service that combined top-notch administrative and marketing support with a personal, tailored approach. I was inspired by the idea of helping businesses not just to run smoothly, but to thrive.
