Larynx Entertainment

Larynx Entertainment

Larynx Entertainment is co-owned by directors Dave Acton and Pete Rogers. It is a media platform that specialises in the promotion of Welsh urban media through various channels including sharing artists’ work on social media, creating content with artists such as freestyle rap videos and by creating live events for artists to perform at.

Dave and Pete handle all communication with artists, contacting venues and the day-to-day business operations including running their social media pages whilst also working with the wider team – Creative Director Daniel Edwards and adviser Tim Humphreys-Jones.

What they did

Founded in 2016, Larynx started out as a collective of local artists based in Wrexham. Over the course of 2 years, they managed to establish themselves in the community by performing at local showcases and festivals as well as releasing multiple projects that were promoted under the banner of Larynx.

With their transition into a media platform, Dave and Pete registered with [the Welsh Government’s flagship business support service] Business Wales and the Wrexham Enterprise Hub. Within 4 months, they had registered the company and have secured an investment from the Development Bank of Wales which allowed the entrepreneurs to promote their business further and make the necessary purchases that will help continue the sustainable growth of Larynx Entertainment.

What would they do differently

“Our philosophy has always been to walk before we can run and not make decisions that are not plausible. We would continue to run our business as we have from the beginning.” – Dave Acton, Co-Director of Larynx Entertainment.

Their proudest moment in business

“We were really proud when we registered our business.”

Do they use Welsh in their business

“We have been able to have event posters that were produced and translated into Welsh by local businesses. It has helped us engage with a broader audience.”

Describe the type of support (financial / non-financial) they’ve received from Business Wales / Welsh Government

Larynx Entertainment benefitted from advisory support, provided by Business Wales’ adviser Anwen Pari Owen, who assessed the viability of the business idea and advised on start-up issues such as company structure and legal set-up, generating income, business model and business planning.

Following the support, Dave and Pete were able to register the company and have successfully launched it from the Business Wales Wrexham Enterprise Hub.

Dave commented: “We have been able to gain professional advice from multiple individuals and companies, including advisory support from [the Welsh Government’s flagship business support service] Business Wales, the Business Wales Wrexham Enterprise Hub and a micro loan from the Development Bank of Wales. All of this has been vital to the growth of Larynx.”
