I’m Jordan Sully and I created my own handmade natural skincare range and founded the company Natural Dermatology based in Newport, following my own personal battle with acne for 15 years.
What I did
From a very young age, I always had aspirations of starting my own business. But my struggles with severe acne and depression took control, and I dropped out of school. My entrepreneurial ambitions took a back seat and the only thing on my mind was solving my skin problem.
During this time, I visited numerous dermatologists and received every type of conventional treatment available. Forward on 15 years and still suffering with acne, I endured countless consultations and ineffective medicated treatments. I knew I needed to take action and decided to research a natural approach to my skin.
After years of doctor’s prescriptions, trying every product on the market, I found a solution to my problem by hand-making my own range of natural skincare products. These products combined with a holistic approach to life created a natural regimen that cleared my skin for the first time in 15 years.
It was at this point, I decided to combine my two burning ambitions, to start my own business and pioneer a new era of natural dermatology.
What I would do differently
I think I would have started the business sooner and believed more in myself. I took a long time to set the business up which I attribute to a slight fear of failure and perfectionism. I wanted everything to be perfect before I launched, which is not totally a bad thing. However, I have now realised running a business is a process of continuous improvement and the best way to learn, is to start doing. Jumping in feet first is not a bad thing!
My proudest moment in business
My proudest moment in business resonates in every positive piece of feedback I receive from customers. To help others on their journey to naturally clearer skin is precisely why I started the business and to know they’re enjoying the products is a wonderful feeling.
- resilience is key in business, when things get tough, you’ve got to remain positive and persevere, no matter what life throws at you
- keep believing in what you’re doing
- be open about your problems in life as well as in business, you don’t have to be alone in this
- treasure your clients, make them feel extra special, without them you don’t have a business
