Construction Futures Wales is a business improvement programme designed to improve and build on principles of best practice and continuous improvement within the construction sector in Wales.
How is this different?
CFW is jointly funded by the Welsh Government and the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) through the Joint Investment Strategy (JIS) for the construction industry in Wales. CITB manages the programme on behalf of the partners.
Over recent years, we have seen a growing realisation that construction activity can significantly contribute to the growth and social impact on the Welsh economy by developing both people skills and businesses. This has resulted in construction related contracts moving to longer term framework/collaborative agreements and increased demands along the whole supply chain.
The Construction Futures Wales programme aims to equip the industry to better understand the challenges it faces moving forward, and equip the workforce to better meet those challenges. This will be done through delivery of support on live projects. It will demonstrate opportunities for real savings, growth and skills development, through improvement activities and training.
Ken Skates AM, Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Infrastructure
The 2016-2020 Construction Skills Network report for Wales forecasts that over 27,000 construction jobs could be created in Wales during this period while the projected growth rate in Welsh construction output for the same timeframe, 7.1%, is almost triple the UK average (2.5%).
These forecasts are based on a number of substantial on-going projects as well as potential pipeline projects. They are impressive figures and clearly illustrate a range of opportunities for business growth by construction companies that have the capability to take advantage and grasp the opportunities as they arise.
The Construction Futures Wales (CFW) project is ideally placed to help construction companies ensure they are ahead of the game and in pole position to bid for and win contracts.
All Construction Futures Wales services are funded by the Welsh Government and CITB, as part of a Joint Investment Strategy to support the growth of Welsh construction businesses.
CFW provides information, advice, practical support and professional training. These services are delivered by industry specialists and are designed to fit around your company’s requirements and are free of charge
I would urge companies to explore how these services, which are tailored specifically for the construction industry, could help your business improve its performance.
The Company Health Check Pathway can provide a comprehensive analysis of your business performance and provide the information needed to grow and improve. This could mean 121 in-depth support in a range of areas from tendering to lean construction or participation in a high level Leadership & Management programme.
Construction is one of our key economic sectors with potential for real growth and Construction Futures Wales can help turn that potential into reality.
Message from Mark Bodger
CITB Wales’ Director of Strategic Partnerships, Mark Bodger, has emphasised the importance of strong partnerships in construction, such as Construction Futures Wales.
“The construction sector plays an integral role in the economic stability of Wales, employing more than 100,000 workers and representing around seven per cent of the country’s GVA. The support of the Welsh Government is essential to ensuring the industry’s long term sustainable growth and we’re delighted to be working with the Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Infrastructure on this prestigious project."
