Cwellyn Arms

The Cwellyn Arms is a family run, traditional country inn and restaurant with accommodation in Rhyd Ddu, a stunning spot at the foot of Mount Snowdon.

The business focuses on providing a walker friendly service and is a popular spot for hikers with Lon Gwyrfai, Y Garn, Nantlle Ridge and the Rhyd Ddu path for Snowdon which all start in the village of Rhyd Ddu.

The owners, Graham Bamber and family, originally owned four green grocery shops along the coast (St. Asaph, Prestatyn, Abergele and Rhyl) before purchasing the business as a derelict building. “As a builder, by trade, I could see that the location was perfect and was able to envision the future potential of the property”.

After completely rebuilding the business and expanding to include a restaurant, camp site, self-catering lodges and general accommodation, they now employ 20 staff and are continually looking for new opportunities to expand.

How has Business Wales helped Cwellyn Arms?

"The new restaurant and kitchen is the best thing we’ve ever done with Business Wales’ help."
Graham Bamber

Graham shared his vision with a Business Wales advisor to modernise and enlarge their kitchen and restaurant facilities, with the aim of doubling their seating capacity and ensuring that there was plenty of space for dining guests to enjoy their experience in comfort.

Business Wales was then able to provide advice, support and guidance to realise this vision and develop the business in a sustainable manner – ultimately securing funding to finance the project.

“The new restaurant and kitchen have had an amazing impact on our business, thanks to Business Wales’ help. Our turnover has increased by 25% and brought the business into the 21st century – enabling us to achieve the growth needed to show the true potential of the Cwellyn Arms.” – Graham Bamber
