This is an action plan for all organisations and businesses that are involved in the development and management of tourism in Merthyr Tydfil.
It is split into 3 main sections shown below. Under each of these headings, actions have been identified to improve the visitor experience:
- Marketing/publicity and perception (including marketing, research and community involvement).
- Destination Development (coordinating activities and services which impacts on the visitor and their enjoyment of the destination, for example transport, paths, information, public conveniences, parking and so on).
- Product Development (providing a roadmap for the development of Merthyr’s key assets).
The identified actions include a plan to tackle any negative perceptions of Merthyr Tydfil as a visitor destination. This will be done through developing communications with local and regional press, developing community tourism ambassadors and developing community tourism embassies as 'hubs' which will liaise with partners across the south wales Valleys to help develop facilities in Merthyr Tydfil.
