Infrastructure

Pembrokeshire’s heritage means energy generation projects will be well-supported by existing, strong infrastructure. We have our own 400 KV National Grid connection as well as connections directly into the national high-pressure gas transmission network and into inland oil distribution terminals. There are also proposals to lay an undersea connector between Ireland and Pembrokeshire as part of a mutually beneficial scheme for renewables trading.

At Milford Haven, the UK’s fifth busiest port, there is an excellent maritime supply chain, with tugs, waterside security, pilotage, shipping agents and freight companies. The Port Authority is also the landlord, with offices and workshops available for rent and excellent waterside sites with slipways, dry docks and other facilities to suit the construction of marine devices.

The M4 is within an hour by car, and our capital, Cardiff - with its international airport - is just two hours’ drive away. Fishguard and Pembroke Dock offer two regular ferry routes directly to Ireland, while Milford Haven’s deep-water port represents a strategically important link from the UK to the rest of the world, handles over 20% of the UK's energy supply and is the UK’s fifth busiest port.

Haverfordwest Airport lies within the Enterprise Zone and can provide businesses with quick access to the area by fixed wing aircraft or by helicopter as well as refuelling and engineering facilities.

Pembrokeshire is connected to Swansea, Cardiff and London by rail, with journey times set to decrease with the electrification of the Great Western line in 2019.
