Green Growth Pledge

The Green Growth Pledge is part of the specialist sustainability support available through Business Wales and is open to all Welsh SMEs regardless of their industry sector. It provides a practical way for businesses to demonstrate their positive impact on the people and places around them and join a growing community of forward-thinking organisations.

By signing up to the pledge, each company is asked to make a commitment to one or more actions to help them reduce impact or ensure sustainable performance.

Green Growth Pledge Actions:

Products & Services:

your company can take steps to reduce its use of raw ingredients and materials, ensure your processes are efficient and your services are delivered using minimum natural resources.

Efficient Transport:

steps your company can take to reduce vehicle use and improve fuel efficiency by using fuel-efficient vehicles, co-ordinating supply and delivery transport and sharing this with other local businesses.

Working with Responsible Suppliers:

your company can take action to encourage good practice within your supply chain. This could mean increasing the proportion of your suppliers based in your region, choosing suppliers based on their good practices or having a written policy which can guide you on how to choose suppliers.

Using Land, Energy & Water Wisely:

you can take steps to reduce reliance on natural resources including engaging with sustainable land management practices, encouraging biodiversity and prioritising renewable energy, efficiency and reuse.

Use & End of Life:

you can take action to minimise energy use and waste arising from your products and services during their use and at their end of life. This includes specialist recycling of products when they reach end of life and creating minimal waste that is always removed from customer sites.

Well-being of Staff & Your Local Community:

you can take action to make your business socially responsible by ensuring you pay your employees a decent living wage, provide them with flexible working conditions and offer products and services which benefit public health and well-being.

Measuring Impacts:

you can take steps to measure and manage the environmental and social impacts of your business, including monitoring and reporting carbon, water and social value and putting an action plan into place to improve performance.

Brand & Marketing:

your business can take action to communicate your good practices and making it accessible to all, to ensure it is recognised for and associated with best practice.

Appropriate Packaging:

these are actions your company can take to ensure packaging protects products and the environment such as minimising packaging weight and ensuring packaging is designed to be re-used, recycled or composted.

Preventing Waste & Pollution:

you can take action to reduce waste and pollution, including setting reduction targets, monitoring and recording generated pollution and waste and conducting risk assessments within the business and the supply chain.
