The Little Welsh Deli
A Swansea-based deli has seen a 21% increase in their annual
profits following expert advice and funding provided by WRAP Cymru.
The Little Welsh Deli was founded in 2008 by Clare and Ryan Phillips, with a passion for baking traditional Welsh savoury food. The mainstay of their business has always been their range of pasties that are made from their own original recipes, which include varieties such as a cawl, steak and ale and corned beef and potato; all of which are sold at local farmers’ markets and independent outlets in South Wales.
Whilst the business has taken every opportunity to minimise waste, a review by WRAP Cymru highlighted the cost of food being discarded at external events – i.e. food festivals – due to a lack of portable refrigeration. They were consequently awarded a grant from WRAP Cymru to invest in a vehicle with in-built coolers and storage equipment, leading to a direct reduction in waste generation and a growth in profits of £3,800/21% per annum – a significant increase for this small but growing enterprise.
