One door closes...

As the end of January is fast approaching, it's a good a time as any to reflect on the past year - our experiences, challenges and how we've overcome them.

2021 has been quite a year for all of us, I’m sure you’ll agree. For me, it’s been a year of change – there’s been some big ones, change of house, change of job (twice!), becoming a secondary carer to my mum. Some changes I had to roll with but the job changes, I’ve decided to do something about – to take control of my working life.

The word ‘redundancy’ is enough to send a shiver running down most people’s spines and even though I knew it was coming, I still went through a mixture of emotions when it happened, anxiety, worry, uncertainty, to name but a few.

They say that when ‘one door closes another opens’, don’t they? so, I decided to take the leap into running my own business, to be my own boss, be in control of the ‘what’, ‘how’, ‘who’ and ‘when’.

I’d been toying with the idea for a few years, as I love working from home and being in control of my day but had always been held back by those voices in my head "I know nothing about running a business", "I have no clients", "It's too risky". So, when the dreaded ‘Redundancy’ finally hit, it gave me the proverbial kick up the backside to finally get started, dispel those doubts, do my homework, find out who can help and advise me and link up to networks.

I know I need to roll up my sleeves and put some hard graft in before I start to reap the benefits but heading into 2022 excited, positive and terrified!
