Welsh Government consultation on updating 200 year old Taxi licensing laws

The Welsh Government is urging interested parties to have their say on the proposals, which will seek to address issues raised by drivers, unions, licensing authorities and the Law Commission to better represent modern practices.

Proposals include:

  • the introduction of national standards for all taxis and private hire vehicles

  • tougher penalties on touting, including impounding vehicles

  • bring pedi-cabs and novelty vehicles, including stretch limousines, within the scope of taxi and private hire regulation

  • to retain the ability of local licensing authorities to limit the number of taxis working in their area

The consultation closes on 8 September 2017.
