In today's highly competitive and unforgiving economic climate, businesses need to be responsive, adaptable and able to react rapidly to market conditions. 

Skills for Industry 2 has been set up to ensure that businesses in south west Wales have the skill set to adapt and embrace change to help them thrive, prosper and grow.

By delivering subsidised, sector specific, work relevant training, Skills for Industry will be supporting businesses operating across a variety of sectors, including:
  • Energy
  • Construction
  • Creative Industries
  • Science
  • Advanced Manufacturing
  • ICT
  • Automotive
  • Engineering
  • Financial and Professional Services
  • Food
  • Care
  • Tourism

The business benefits

Your business will stand or fall on the skills of your staff. Skills for Industry can help you hone their skills, so that they are equipped to identify new market opportunities, able to recognise change as an opportunity - not a threat, and have the knowledge to drive through sustained business growth.

To meet the training requirements of every member of your team, Skills for Industry is divided into 2 strands (S01 and S02). S01 will target those staff with low or no qualifications and is geared to helping them train up to Level 2. S02 is designed to help members of your team train to Level 3 and above.

By being sharply focused on the individual needs of every employee, Skills for Industry can help you to:

  • Overcome any specific labour market and recruitment challenges by raising technical and job specific skills from within.
  • Tackle the skills gaps in your team, and make sure your entire operation is more productive from top to bottom.
  • Upskill members of the team who are under qualified and/or under performing.
  • Refresh existing skills across the board to ensure that all staff skills remain relevant to your business needs.
  • Inspire, motivate and provide clear career progression frameworks for staff.

What support will you get?

The European Social Fund has allowed us to subsidise the courses, which makes it financially viable for all ambitious businesses - large and small - to invest in training. With our support, staff skills can become the driver for increased productivity and the sustained growth of your business.

But as well as the financial support, you can also count on our training providers, who oversee the management and implement the courses, to provide all the expert advice you'll need. They'll be at your side offering support throughout.

Your commitment

Although Skills for Industry has been set up to help you significantly reduce your training costs, you will be asked to undertake a financial commitment. You will be required to contribute a percentage of the cost of the training depending on the size of your business, 30% for small businesses, 40% for medium sized businesses and 50% for large businesses.

You will also be expected to get behind the programme in other ways. You'll need to show your support by freeing up time for staff to undergo their training, and by providing suitable facilities depending on the size of your business.

Skills for Industry will be targeting support to businesses operating across south west Wales. So if you're based in the region then your employees could qualify.
