Project description

The aim of the pilot was to test the viability of events at a specific location in the Glamorgan Heritage Coast – Dunraven Bay, Southerndown. The pilot tested both the demand for events and the willingness from event organisers to hold events in such a rural location.

What did the project achieve?

The project worked with experienced event organisers and established businesses.  The location for the pilot had been identified through the commissioned feasibility study – Dunraven Bay, Southerndown. The events held during the pilot were:

•    Craft & Art Festival

Crafts Festival

•    Craft & Art Workshops
•    Open Air Cinema

Lost Lands Cinema

•    Slow Food Festival
•    Food/ Drink & Music Festival

Who are the project beneficiaries?

Event organisers, Coastal businesses, Tourism economy businesses

What was the result of your project?

Overall the pilot project has worked well in testing the potential for events at Dunraven Bay, it identified that there is a market with an opportunity for further development.  A pop up event toolkit and an evaluation report are attached.

What’s next for your project?

The majority view from visitors, event organisers, participants and stakeholders is that they want to see further events at Dunraven Bay in the future. Evaluation results support that view. There is potential for developing events there and building its profile for this, with consequent economic benefit.
