Brythonic Yachts

Brythonic Yachts

One of a kind luxury superyacht business launches successfully in Brecon, supported by Business Wales.

Having run another successful marine solutions business, Morgan Maritime Designs Ltd, husband and wife Drew Reyland and Fiona Morgan decided to fulfil a gap in the international market and start a new business, Brythonic Yachts, offering high-end bespoke superyachts. Business Wales were on hand to support Morgan Maritime Designs Ltd in the early days of its operation, helping it raise start-up finance via a Start-Up Loan. Business Wales is now helping Drew and Fiona establish the new business and grow it through effective marketing and branding, as well as providing international trade advice and further support options.

Introduction to business

Brecon-based Brythonic Yachts provides a bespoke superyacht design service targeted at the mid-price range international yacht market. Working alongside a renowned Italian yacht designer and a highly experienced South African naval architect, Brythonic Yachts offers an attractive portfolio of styles, providing a starting point for clients to create their own unique vessels.

Why did you decide to set up your own business?

We have both gained a significant experience in the marine solutions industry through our business Morgan Maritime Designs Ltd. We knew the market well and identified a gap for high-end luxury yachts.

I knew I was good at what I was doing and saw that no one else in Wales is designing high quality yachts, so we went for it – from designing and selling water ski boats from my late father’s garage in Lisvane, Cardiff, some 30 years ago, to now being the only designer and manufacturer of superyachts in Wales!

Business Wales support

Fiona and Drew first got in touch with Business Wales Relationship Manager Steve Maggs in 2019 via their accountants for financial support for Morgan Maritime Designs (MDD) Ltd., a company specialising in maritime solutions including design, consultancy, material supply, project management and new builds across the globe. Business Wales explored avenues and options for further growth, including skills training, financial support, international trade and sustainability advice.

This was at a time when MMD Ltd. was in the process of securing a £26m deal to supply sea limousines in the Maldives.

Drew and Fiona also identified an opportunity to expand into the mid-range superyachts, so Brythonic Yachts was established and incorporated to tap into this lucrative market. Business Wales, through their Relationship Manager Steve Maggs, is helping the start-up to receive specialist marketing advice to ensure their brand is consistent with the market they are aiming to attract, as well as providing advice to ensure Drew’s digital marketing activities are providing a cost-effective, wide-reaching way of promoting Brythonic Yacht’s services and design solutions. Business Wales is also facilitating support from the Welsh Government’s International Trade Advisory team to scope further support via its Export Hub.

Outcomes

  • a successful start
  • relationship management support on hand with the establishment of a high-end yacht design business

We are grateful to Steve for being available to support Morgan Maritime Designs Ltd. and for his assistance in this early phase of Brythonic Yachts’ lifecycle. We are already extremely busy as the only design and manufacturing business of high-end, bespoke superyachts in Wales.
