National Day Nurseries Association Cymru, Mother Goose Nursery

Support on Applying for Funding & Developing Mother Goose Nursery

Sarah Love has been a member of NDNA since 2015 and is an active member of the Wrexham NDNA Network. She owns two nurseries in the Wrexham area ABC Day Nursery and Mother Goose Nursery. Since taking over she has developed the businesses using support available from Business Wales, Local Authorities and NDNA Cymru.

Sarah has found the regular and informative updates from NDNA Cymru particularly helpful, especially information about Business Loans and Business Relief Grants that have enabled her to keep her nurseries going through a difficult time. In 2020 she applied for funding under the Childcare Offer Small Capital Grants fund. The grant was to improve the outside area at Mother Goose Nursery by carrying our necessary drainage work and landscaping to make it more suitable for the children. A lot of paperwork was required including up to date business plans and cash flow forecasts. However, with NDNA Cymru support, Sarah was able to complete the process and was awarded the funding.

A further grant was applied for to supply new, natural resources for the outside area. As Covid 19 took hold Welsh Government advice was for children to spend as much time in the fresh air as possible and they extended the Small Capital Grants funding for resources that would make nurseries safer in the pandemic. This information was shared by NDNA Cymru through their networks and Sarah successfully applied for further funding for a canopy that meant children could access the outdoor area in all weather.
The changes and improvements to the outdoor space at Mother Goose Nursery have brought huge benefits to the business. The nursery has been able to attract more three year old children under the Childcare Offer and the children attending the nursery have benefited from the fabulous outdoor space where they can play.

Sarah recognises the help and support received by being a member of NDNA. As well as training and resources available on their website www.ndna.org.uk the knowledge and information she regularly received ensured that she was able to take advantage of opportunities when they came along. Sarah felt supported by the team at NDNA Cymru to make the right business decisions for her nurseries.
