The role of business in supporting the general public in taking action on climate change

On 20 October 2022 a new draft ‘Strategy for Public Engagement & Action on Climate Change’ was published for consultation. The consultation is seeking views from Team Wales partners and the general public on how we can work together to encourage and support individuals, households and communities across Wales to play their part in tackling climate change.

Key to people’s motivation to act on climate change is the importance of others leading by example, in particular visible action by industry and business as an important component of people believing that the seriousness of the issues are not being overstated. This new Strategy also explores the role of businesses (working alongside Government and academia) to address the longer-term infrastructure, innovation and technology solutions barriers to action on climate change. The consultation closes on 14 December 2022.

Wales Climate Week

The purpose of this year’s Wales Climate Week (21 to 25 November 2022) is to support the consultation on the draft Strategy. The virtual conference was opened by the Minister for Climate Change on 21 November 2022, kick-starting more than 20 sessions involving discussions on how we might collectively support the general public in taking action on climate change. A number of sessions discussed the role of businesses in helping to unlock some of the challenges associated with climate change.

If you missed the virtual conference, all sessions were recorded and can be watched back via an On Demand section to be published on the Wales Climate Week website at the end of the week. Please also visit the Pledge Wall to learn more about the action you can take as a legacy from this year’s event.
