Two unique sites at the heart of Snowdonia National Park. The Zone’s natural assets and industrial and military heritage combine to offer an ideal and secure environment for low carbon energy, ICT, medical radioisotope or aerospace-related businesses.

At the heart of the Snowdonia National Park, this Zone’s two unique sites combine their natural assets with heritage, to offer the ideal environment for low carbon energy, medical radioisotope production, ICT or, aerospace-related businesses.

Trawsfynydd

  • Offers first-of-its-kind Small Modular Reactor (SMR) development potential.
  • Unique location for data centre with natural energy, natural cooling and natural security.
  • Has its own nationally important energy grid infrastructure.
  • An ideal site for the development of a medical research reactor to provide medical grade radioisotopes for the diagnosis and treatment of cancers.

Trawsfynydd is a 50-hectare (123 acres) site around the former nuclear power station whose location makes it ideal for low carbon energy and ICT businesses.

The site has exceptional infrastructure: a natural, low-cost source of cooling from Wales’ largest man-made lake and from its fresh mountain air, and its own, nationally important grid infrastructure that delivers a reliable, green energy supply.

These assets have led to the site being identified as having first of its kind Small Modular Reactor (SMR) and medical research reactor development potential.

Trained security professionals are already in place at this site, which is also situated under restricted airspace.

This high level of security added to the site’s sustainable, reliable power and natural cooling sources and site-wide access to wider fibre optic services, make Trawsfynydd an attractive location both for a data centre operator and for low carbon energy-related companies.

A development company – Cwmni Egino – has been established by the Welsh Government to assist in taking forward the Trawsfynydd site.
