Liz and Simon Kirkham decided to turn their love of boats and water into opening their own business. So, they took the plunge and bought a boatyard.
With no experience of previously running a business, they were matched with a Business Wales mentor who supported Liz and Simon with the overall business management. They also attended two webinars, ‘Tax and Bookkeeping’ and ‘Starting and Running a Business’, to further develop their business knowledge. The support they received allowed them to draft a business plan and a cash flow forecast, reviewed by their mentor to ensure they were on the right track.
Additionally, they have employed a young person from the Kickstart Scheme, which provided employers funding to create jobs for 16 to 24-year-olds on Universal Credit.
