Esther and Veronica are the owners of TLC Nursing and Homecare Plus, a domiciliary care provider based in North East Wales.

Business Wales have supported the business in a number of ways including business planning, securing funding and a growth strategy. The relationship commenced with Business Wales helping them to obtain funding to support the initial purchase of the company, employing circa 60 staff. This was followed by the successful implementation of management processes, and advice to support industry compliance management.

Following the pandemic lockdown, the company struggled to recruit staff. As a solution, Business Wales helped them register as a sponsored licence and training provider for skilled workers and subsequently, they have recruited and trained 30 care workers from overseas.

With support from Business Wales, the company continues to grow, recruiting efficiency and effectively to fill care positions.

Matt is the owner of Swallow Yachts, a Cardigan-based business that produces high quality, award-winning boats and yachts.

Since December 2018, Business Wales have worked with Matt to navigate the impact of Brexit and the pandemic on his business model and the anticipated problems it would cause with the supply chain.

Keen to develop international trade, we helped Matt secure investment to help the business to adapt, including manufacturing wooden hulls at its Gwbert site and upskilling staff in new boat-building methods.

The Business Wales support has boosted the business’ export and international trade capabilities, to help grow its exports by an estimated 20% in two years. With the support of Business Wales, Swallow Yachts now employs 22 staff, and continues to grow.

Gareth is a head chef and co-owner of Ynyshir, the most highly-awarded restaurant in Wales.

When the pandemic hit, Business Wales helped Gareth review his business model, to look at widening the restaurant's offering and expand its dining options, additional accommodation, higher spend, and generally use the full assets across the footprint of the business.

By developing the offering, implementing investment and training plans, funding was obtained to introduce additional accommodation such as Tipis, and an outdoor dining experience. The lockdown also saw an experiment with high-end takeaways as well as forge alliances with other operators and suppliers.

The business was awarded its 2nd Michelin Star in Feb 2022 and this is a 1st for Wales, and one of only 11 restaurants in the UK with 2 Michelin Stars.

Jess is part of The Arfon Timber Cooperative Ltd, a workers co-operative and social enterprise owned by its members, with a passion for homegrown timber and timber engineering.

Over the years, Business Wales has provided advice on business planning, innovation funding, R&D tax credits, and business advice during the pandemic. As a result of this support, the company has grown and has been able to build professional relationships, such as with other local businesses, which has improved productivity and business understanding.

Most recently, Business Wales have helped the co-op to secure investment and funding to purchase new tools and machinery, to vastly improve business efficiency and capacity. The main objective is to cut down on the environmental cost of using the wood and reducing timber miles.
