Success stories

Sophie Community Care

Business Wales helped me become confident in starting my own business.

After 19 years of experience in care homes and hospitals, Sophie Powell decided to start her own business as a micro carer after participating in the Monmouthshire micro care project - a collaboration between Business Wales and the Greater Gwent Health, Social Care and Wellbeing Partnership that offers support, training and advice to domiciliary care workers.

Sophie is Neurodiverse and feels that becoming self-employed gives her the flexibility to continue her career as a micro carer around her other commitments - something she is keen to encourage other neurodiverse individuals to consider.

A key part of the support provided by Business Wales was to assist Sophie to successfully apply for the Barriers to Start-Up Grant for 25-year-olds and over, helping to cover her initial start-up costs and turn her plans into reality of starting her business, Sophie Community Care.
