Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT) Industrial Liaison Program (ILP)

Welsh Government has a corporate membership with Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT) Industrial Liaison Program (ILP). Through the Welsh Government ILP membership, any Welsh business, entrepreneur or pre-revenue start-up with an operating base in Wales can: 

  • Access the MIT-knowledge base of research, publications and video content via the dedicated MIT ILP website
  • Attend and gain complimentary entry to MIT conferences
  • Attend Welsh Government events organised with MIT visiting faculty
  • Attend MIT ILP Conferences in person and apply for Welsh Government grant to assist with costs of travel and accommodation (see below for further information)

The Industrial Liaison Program

ILP is a business engagement and collaboration mechanism used by MIT to foster networks and develop relationships with businesses around the world.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is globally recognised as one of the foremost research and academic institutions in the world.

It aims to ‘further knowledge and prepare students in science, technology and other fields of study that will best benefit the nation and the world today’.

Grant Availability
The Welsh Government also offers a limited number of financial grants to contribute towards air travel and accommodation, to delegates attending MIT ILP in-person conferences or events that take place outside of the UK.  For the first applicant or visit, the grant covers up to 50% of the actual costs or £1000 (whichever is the lesser amount), towards air travel and/or accommodation only. You will be responsible for all other costs including transfers, Visa/ESTA, food and entertainment.  A second delegate from the same organisation, can also apply to attend and receive up to 25% or £500 (whichever is the lesser amount) towards air travel and/or accommodation only. You will be responsible for all costs including transfers, Visa/ESTA, food and entertainment.  

Please note that there is a competitive application process to access the grant and that the monetary value of this support is classed as a Minimum Financial Assistance (MFA) subsidy under the Subsidy Control Act (2022). If your application to join the conference delegation in person is successful, you will be required to complete a declaration form stating the total value of state aid received within the last 3 years.
