Surpluses in food businesses can arise for many reasons; for example, over-supplied, over-ordered, obsolete seasonal stock, off-specification, packaging issues, and production trials. By diverting this surplus stock to FareShare Cymru, you will be helping hundreds of charities across Wales.
The Surplus with Purpose Cymru Fund aims to help make it easy for Welsh food and drink businesses, to donate their surplus, by overcoming any barriers to donation.
This might include:
- Ensuring food is ‘donation-ready’ in how it is packed or stored
- Covering harvesting, labour, packaging or storage costs
- Covering lost income from diversion from anaerobic digestion
Funding is available until 2025 to make it cost-neutral to donate your food surplus by covering the costs of harvesting, labour, packaging, storage or transportation of surplus food. The fund can also offset any lost income from donating edible food that would otherwise have gone to anaerobic digestion so please contact swp@fareshare.cymru to discuss.
