Building control profession standards, codes and rules

Safety hat on a desk

From April 2024 building inspectors and building control bodies will be required to comply with standards, codes and rules under changes to the Building Act 1984, as inserted by the Building Safety Act 2022.

The Building Safety Act 2022 introduced new requirements about registration and licensing for building inspectors and building control approvers. Welsh Ministers have appointed the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) to oversee and enforce new requirements from this legislation.

Registration for those who wish to work in Building Control within Wales has opened.

The new law comes into force on 6 April 2024 so please register before then:

When completing the application form, applicants need to select that they want to be registered for ‘Wales’ or alternatively they can select ‘England’ and ‘Wales’ if they work cross borders.
