Business in the Community Cymru – Age at Work Programme

Business in the Community’s (BITC) Age-Inclusive Business Review is a free, online, self-assessment tool to help identify gaps and highlight strengths in relation to being an age-inclusive and age-friendly employer. It will take approximately 25 minutes to complete, and you will receive bespoke age-inclusion recommendations for your organisation.

Business in the Community Cymru in partnership with Age Cymru are delivering the Age at Work Programme, supporting businesses to create workplaces where older workers can thrive.

Business in the Community’s (BITC) Age-Inclusive Business Review was a useful self-assessment tool that has helped the Innovate Trust to identify gaps, as well as highlight strengths, in our organisation’s approach to age-inclusive policies and practices.

Following completion of the 25-minute questionnaire, we received a bespoke recommendations report which helped inform and guide us in our journey to becoming a more age-inclusive organisation.

As a result of these recommendations, we created an age action plan to focus our efforts and have taken a number of actions already, including providing menopause training for our managers, adding financial wellbeing resources to our employee platform, and we are in the process of creating an Employee Carers Network.

The Innovate Trust joined BITC’s Age at Work programme to ensure we are valuing our older employees and providing the support they need. In doing so, we have enhanced the support for our employees of all ages.”

Joining the Business in the Community’s (BITC) Age-inclusive Learning Network has helped STG Aerospace – a specialist SME manufacturing business – to understand the ways in which it can support later-life working as part of a strategy to create a diverse, inclusive and dynamic workplace. The workshops reinforced the importance and benefits of recruiting, retaining and retraining people over 50 for the long-term success of our business and for the wider economy.

I found the guest speakers were incredibly helpful in bringing to life age-inclusive measures that had been implemented in other organisations and they helped us to understand how these benefitted the organisations as well as where the challenges were. This covered everything from unconscious bias training and focus groups on retention, through to financial education programmes and support for menopause.

I found the four workshops invaluable and inspiring. They not only covered a breadth of issues, such as health and wellbeing, and financial wellbeing, but also provided practical suggestions for action. The backup resources provided by BITC, such as the Age-Inclusive Employer Toolkit, has given us a constructive framework to develop initiatives for our business going forward.”
