Cardiff businesses invited to have their say on funding the city’s future transport network

Cardiff

Cardiff Council is inviting businesses, residents and stakeholders to have their say in a major public consultation exploring potential measures to help fund future improvements to the city’s transport network.

The consultation will run until 17 January 2027 and will seek views on a range of options that could help fund improvements to public transport and tackle congestion across the city.

Creating a modern, reliable and accessible transport network is a key part of Cardiff's long-term ambitions for sustainable growth. The Council's 10-year Transport Strategy sets out plans to improve public transport, reduce congestion and support economic development. Delivering these improvements, however, will require significant long-term investment.

A Workplace Parking Levy has emerged as the council’s preferred option at this stage because their assessment suggests it could provide a sustainable source of funding while having less direct impact on residents than some of the alternatives. However, no decisions have been made, and they are keen to hear a wide range of views before any recommendations are made.

The consultation explains the options available, together with their potential benefits and challenges.

A dedicated webpage has been created on the Council's website, Workplace Parking Levy - Cardiff Council, providing information on the funding options being considered, why additional investment is needed, frequently asked questions, and how people can take part in the consultation. The webpage also includes a link to the online survey.
