Dyslexia Awareness Week from 7 to 13 October 2024, celebrates the diversity of the dyslexic community and the rich variety of lived experiences of dyslexia.
This year the British Dyslexia Association is asking you to share your own stories of dyslexia during #DAW24 to raise awareness of the diversity of lived experiences within the community. Sharing your story can help demonstrate the importance of early support and intervention and help inspire others by showing that with the right support, it is never too late to change your story: What's your story - share your dyslexia story here - British Dyslexia Association (bdadyslexia.org.uk)
Each person with dyslexia experiences it in ways unique to them. Each will have their own set of strengths and challenges and tread their own path through life.
It is estimated that 15% of the population have dyslexia and/or other specific learning differences (SpLD), therefore it's highly probable that there will be neurodiversity within any workplace.
Neurodiversity can be a significant asset to an organisation, bringing a different dimension to problem-solving or creativity in the way that an organisation operates and delivers its products and/or services.
Being dyslexia-friendly makes good business sense. Embedding this ethos within your organisation benefits everyone, it enables your employees to fulfil their potential and also supports your dyslexic customers and clients.
