Help your parent or carer employees receive the Child Benefit payments they’re entitled to

teenage student

If you have employees with children aged 16 to 19, they need to know they could miss out on up to £1,406 a year in Child Benefit unless they confirm their teen’s education or training status.

HMRC are writing to parents to let them know they must confirm if their teens are staying in full-time education, or training, before the deadline of 31‌‌‌‌‌‌ August‌‌‌‌‌‌ 2026, if HMRC are not informed then their Child Benefit will be stopped.

You can help your employees to get the payments they’re entitled to by reminding them to extend their Child Benefit claim online or through the HMRC app.

They can access the digital service in the HMRC app or on GOV‌‌‌.‌‌‌UK and search 'extend Child Benefit'.

If any of your employees or their partner have an individual income of more than £60,000 and need to extend their Child Benefit, they will still be liable to pay the High Income Child Benefit Charge, which can now be paid through their PAYE tax code

Please encourage your employees to use the online Child Benefit tax calculator to get an estimate of how much benefit they will receive, and what the charge may be.
