Information to help you protect, manage and enforce your intellectual property (IP) rights in the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA).
If you are thinking of expanding your business to the EU/EEA, it is essential to know how to manage and enforce your IP as private property rights. IP rights are territorial, and you may need to register your rights through:
- a regional or international process which allows you to file in several countries at once or;
- an application to national offices responsible for granting IP rights.
Registering your IP in the UK does not provide protection abroad.
The Intellectual Property Office (IPO) has published new guidance for people wishing to do business in Europe. It provides practical information and resources to help you make the most of your IP when doing business in the EU and EEA.
