The Near Ready Leadership Programme has been designed following the Ministerial objective to increase diversity on public body boards, aligned with the strategy set out in 'Reflecting and Running Wales - Diversity & Inclusion Strategy for Public Appointments in Wales'.
The goal is to create a robust pipeline of potential board members, ensuring that individuals from ethnic minority backgrounds and disabled people of high calibre, expertise and skills, who are nearly ready to apply can participate in a high level leadership programme for Board development.
Taking positive action to increase representation on public boards from specific protected groups, the Welsh Government are funding two Near Ready Leadership Programmes in 2022 aimed specifically at leaders in Wales who are:
- Disabled people
- Individuals from ethnic minority backgrounds
The programmes aim to equip leaders with the specialist knowledge and skills to carry out the role of a board member on a public body.
The programme aims to provide participants with:
- An understanding of the dynamics and logistics of a board
- A greater understanding of the work of public bodies in Wales
- The ability to identify and utilise the individual's tangible skills and personal experience to obtain and succeed in a board position
