Update on implementing the Environmental Protection (Single-use Plastic Products) (Wales) Act 2023 - Phase 2 bans

Huw Irranca-Davies MS, Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs has provided an update to the intended implementation timetable for the remaining ‘Phase 2’ bans under The Environmental Protection (Single-use Plastic Products) (Wales) Act 2023.

This is for the following products:

  • Plastic single-use carrier bags
  • Polystyrene lids for cups and takeaway food containers
  • Oxo-degradable plastic products.

This means the remaining bans under the Environmental Protection (Single-use Plastic Products) (Wales) Act 2023 will not be introduced before the spring 2026.
