Box UK has been delivering cutting-edge digital solutions for nearly three decades, serving as a long-term digital partner to organisations that need their websites to do more than just function. With a team of in-house experts covering the full digital transformation lifecycle - from strategy and UX design to development and ongoing support - the company works with a wide range of enterprise clients across both public and private sectors, building platforms that meet high technical standards whilst genuinely supporting their audiences, delivering real value, and enabling organisations to achieve their business goals and outcomes.
Hayley Macleod, Chief Operations and People Officer, joined Box UK five years ago and initiated a company-wide training needs analysis to identify skills gaps and development opportunities. Around the same time, she discovered the Welsh Government’s Flexible Skills Programme (FSP) and reached out to explore how it could support Box UK’s learning and development ambitions.
Since then, Box UK has leveraged the Welsh Government's Flexible Skills Programme each year to strengthen its workforce's skills and capabilities.
Hayley Macleod, Chief Operations and People Officer at Box UK explains:
We’ve worked closely with the Business Wales team for a long time now and can honestly say everyone has been incredibly supportive and responsive.
As a result of the funding, we have been able to deliver targeted training across multiple disciplines, from technical skills for developers, UX designers, product owners, and systems engineers, to leadership development for our management team.
“It has also enabled access to specialist courses such as Drupal and WordPress development, UX training via the Interaction Design Foundation, and internationally recognised product ownership programmes.
The impact has been significant. Box UK has seen a rise in internal promotions, improved employee retention, and consistently strong engagement survey results, with team members highlighting the value of having opportunities to grow their skills.
Hayley continued:
The Flexible Skills Programme funding has made a real difference. It’s allowed us to offer more training than we could have otherwise, and that’s had a direct impact on our ability to promote from within, retain talent, and deliver for our clients.
Box UK’s commitment to learning and development is also reflected in its employee engagement surveys, where team members consistently highlight the value of having opportunities to grow their skills.
The FSP funding has helped the company stretch its internal training budget further, enabling more employees to access high-quality, role-specific training.
We’ve seen real growth in areas like UX and design, and the feedback from employees has been overwhelmingly positive. They know these courses are an investment, and they appreciate the opportunity to develop professionally.
Hayley concluded:
To other businesses considering the programme, I’d highly recommend it. The process is straightforward, the support is excellent, and the impact on your business can truly be significant.
