Silver Assist Homecare was founded on a simple but powerful belief: Everyone deserves compassionate, high-quality care in their own home. Drawing on more than 15 years of experience in health and social care, Director Samantha Evans launched the business to address the inconsistencies she had seen throughout the sector. Based in Brecon, Silver Assist Homecare has carved out a niche serving rural communities, carefully matching clients with caregivers. With a team of 21 staff, the company received Top 20 Home Care Awards in 2024 and 2025, proving that values-led care and commercial success can go hand in hand. Here, Samantha shares how support from the Business Wales Accelerated Growth Programme (AGP) has helped shape and accelerate that journey.
What problem does Silver Assist Homecare solve?
Our mission is to provide outstanding, person-centred care that enables people to live safely, independently and with dignity in their own homes. We primarily support older adults, people living with dementia and those with physical or sensory needs. Unlike many providers who focus on local authority–funded packages, around 85% of our work is focused on companionship and combating loneliness. We achieve that by carefully matching clients with their caregivers and building trust, consistency and meaningful connections that make a real difference to people’s lives.
What challenges did you face early on?
Like many care providers, recruitment was one of our biggest early hurdles. We needed to find people who genuinely shared our values, not just those with the right qualifications. We addressed this by investing heavily in culture and creating a supportive, rewarding work environment. Balancing sustainable growth while maintaining quality has also been an ongoing challenge. As we’ve expanded, we’ve worked hard to ensure we never lose the personalised service that defines our brand.
How has AGP supported your growth?
Specialist marketing support helped us articulate our brand more clearly, while audit and accountancy support helped us streamline our financial processes. This has given us the clarity and confidence to make the right spending decisions as we grow. Access to experienced mentors and external specialists in areas such as website design, SEO and branding means we haven’t had to learn everything ourselves. That external perspective has been particularly valuable when refining our strategy for marketing, operations and long-term planning.
What impact has AGP’s support had on your growth?
The numbers speak for themselves. In our first year, turnover was £73,000. By year two, it had reached £295,000, a growth of over 500%. Year three saw a further increase to £451,000, and we’re now at £540,000. Since working with AGP, we’ve grown our team to 21 staff members and are planning a 50% increase in our care workforce this year. The support from AGP has also helped us realise the true value of what we’ve built and has given us the confidence to charge appropriately for it.
What milestones are you most proud of?
Winning a Top 20 Home Care Award in both 2024 and 2025 was a significant milestone. It reflects the dedication of our team and the quality of care we provide every day. Equally important is that we’ve maintained our Excellent rating with the Care Inspectorate Wales since the business began. But honestly, the most meaningful moments are the everyday ones: seeing the genuine difference our team makes in people’s lives and the reach we have through the rural communities we serve.
What advice would you give other entrepreneurs?
Surround yourself with the right people and be very selective with early hires. Technical skills can be taught, but what you can’t teach are attitude and alignment with your values. Focus on systems and structure earlier than feels necessary, and don’t be afraid to ask for help. When challenges feel overwhelming, take the next step, however small. Build momentum and keep looking for the next thing to knock over. And with AGP, be open, honest and proactive. The more you engage, the more value you’ll gain.
