Designed to fit perfectly into the natural surrounding environment, are The Roost Merthyr Tydfil eco-friendly self-catering cabins. From the outset, directors Kath and Kristian Morgans wanted to create a sustainable space for outdoor lovers.
To develop their business’s sustainability ambition and expand the size of the business, their Business Wales Resource Efficiency advisor discussed introducing renewable energy, such as EV charging points and building extra cabins. Solar PV was advised as the most suitable renewable energy, but they also explored wind turbines and micro-hydro as possible alternative options.
The Roost Merthyr Tydfil has been awarded the Green Key certificate, recognising their standard of excellence in the field of sustainability within tourism, after taking steps such as harvesting rainwater for toilets, reusing and recycling as much as possible and only using eco-friendly cleaning products.
As well they have signed up to our Green Growth Pledge, and will work with responsible suppliers, use land, energy and water wisely and will take steps to ensure they are socially responsible for the well-being of staff.
