Whisking passion into enterprise: How Michael Coggan grew Petit Four Patisserie with Business Wales support

Michael Coggan dreamed of becoming a pastry chef since he was a little boy. He never stopped pursuing his passion, and has achieved many great successes – including being crowned winner of Channel 4’s Bake Off: The Professionals in 2021 and, more recently, opening his first patisserie. 

Michael attended the Business Wales 5-9 Club, an eight-week course designed to teach entrepreneurs about the fundamentals of running a business. Michael opened his business in July 2023, with ‘Petit Four Patisserie’ supplying cakes and pastries to wholesalers across the country. 

Michael went back to Business Wales when the unit he shared with another occupant became available for sole ownership. Business Wales provided invaluable advice on securing the premises, in addition to further support on environmental health, law regulations, and finances. 

After going from strength-to-strength, Petit Four Patisserie expanded further, and Michael opened a retail counter in February 2025, selling directly to the public for the first time. Michael continues to use Business Wales’ support services where needed, often as a sounding board for advice or guidance on the current running of his business.
