Project 2: Improving the suckler herd efficiency

• In February 2024, all the heifers were blood tested for disease screening and mineral deficiencies  
• The results are seen in Table 1. Following advice from the vet, all heifers were bolused with a slow releasing mineral bolus.

All the heifers were synchronised following a 10 day PRID and Estrumate protocol, highlighted in Table 2.

• DIY AI by a local A.I technician took place and all the heifers were scanned 5+ weeks following insemination to determine the conception rate and success of the project.
• Following scanning, out of 13 cattle synchronised 7 were in calf and 6 were empty which means a conception rate of 54% which is average for a beef suckler herd.
