The 32 Angus cross calves born during spring/summer 2023 were weaned before housing and split into two management groups by the farmer and sector officer. The groups were evenly split according to weights, age and sex.
Details of both groups are as follows:
Group 1(control) - This group will continue with the current system of feeding grass silage and approx. 1kg/day of concentrate at housing and turned out on grass only during summer months of 2024.
Group 2 - Concentrate intake will be removed in the diet during the first housed winter period, only fed ad lib grass silage, and will be turned out to grass only for the summer 2024.
