Overview

May 2025 to October 2025 (However, this is a 3 year plan for Rhyd Y Gofaint)

Deryl and Frances are proactively planning for their farm's future, investing in infrastructure that will create a more efficient and sustainable working environment. They have already completed a new slurry pit to meet updated regulations. Their next project is to build a slatted shed over this new pit. Currently, their cubicle shed suffers from a limited feeding area, which restricts the cows' feed intake during the winter months. They also have the minimum number of cubicles, and an upgrade to larger, more suitable cubicles would greatly benefit the herd. Tom Greenham of Advanced Milking will advise Deryl and Frances on the optimal cubicle size, bedding, feed barriers, and other improvements for the cubicle shed. Looking ahead, they aim to redesign the farm layout to enhance the overall system. Their current 8-abreast parlor is nearing the end of its lifespan and requires nearly three hours to milk 140 cows. Tom will offer guidance on designing an improved milking system and layout, focusing on better cow flow, an efficient handling system, and overall ease of management.
