MasterFertility is a practical one-day workshop designed to help dairy farmers improve herd reproductive performance through better use of records, clearer fertility targets, stronger transition cow management and practical breeding decisions.
The workshop will combine expert input, farmer discussion and applied exercises, helping participants understand where fertility performance can be improved within their own herd.
Who should attend?
This workshop is suitable for dairy farmers, herd managers and key farm staff who are responsible for breeding, heat detection, transition cow management or fertility records.
It is suitable for both all-year-round and block-calving systems.
Places are limited to a maximum of 18 attendees to encourage discussion, interaction and practical learning.
What will the workshop cover?
- Understand the main fertility performance indicators and what they reveal about herd management
- Identify the cow, herd and system-level factors that influence fertility, including transition management, nutrition, health, lameness, mastitis, body condition and heifer rearing
- Review the effectiveness of heat detection, breeding protocols and the use of technology
- Use herd data to identify the biggest opportunities for improvement
- Create a practical 30-, 60- and 90-day fertility action plan for their own herd
What should I bring?
Participants are encouraged to bring recent herd fertility data where available. This could include:
- pregnancy rate
- submission rate
- conception rate
- calving interval
- six-week in-calf rate
- age at first calving
- culling reasons
Bringing your own data will help you get the most from the workshop and support the development of a practical action plan for your herd.
Workshop format
The day will include a mix of expert-led learning, group discussion and practical exercises. Participants will have the opportunity to review key fertility indicators, consider the management factors affecting reproductive performance and explore practical steps that can be applied on farm.
The workshop will focus on realistic, farm-level actions that can help improve fertility performance, support better breeding decisions and strengthen overall herd management.
Apply to attend
Farmers interested in improving dairy herd fertility, making better use of fertility records and developing a clear action plan for their business are encouraged to apply to attend the MasterFertility workshop.
Places are limited to 18 participants.
This event is eligible for SFS UA4. (6 hours)
If a business partner attends, the participation hours will count towards SFS UA4 Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
