What has been done?
All plots have been marked and baseline soil sampling was conducted which analysed both soil chemical and physical properties and also soil biological activity. This totalled 24 Broad Spectrum Extra Solvita samples from both Cwmrisca and Crickie farms on 28 April and Cilthrew on 29 April.
The first application of biological products was carried out in May, aligning with crop type and manufacturer recommendations. The Tow and Fert implement, specifically designed for biological products, was used for this application. Application dates were as follows:
- Cilthrew: 12 May 2025
- Crickie: 13 May 2025
- Cwmrisca: 14 May 2025
Approximately two to three weeks after the first application, the initial round of sampling and assessments were completed to assess any changes in nutrient uptake within the plant. Along with visual observations, broad spectrum leaf samples were taken during these assessments to analyse nutrient uptake.
Next steps
- The second application of biological products has been applied at Crickie on 9 July, Cwmrisca and Cilthrew applications will be applied in early August.
- Following the second application, another round of tissue analysis and visual observations will be carried out.
- The final assessment in August will involve leaf quality analysis and a biomass yield assessment.
