A Ritchie Beef monitor weigher was used to weigh the animals in group 1 whilst group 2 were weighed every three weeks through the scales in the crush. At turnout, the two groups were united as one group and the monitor will be continuously moved with the animals using a tractor. Power was supplied by Richie solar panel and water was available for the machine at every field.

What’s next?
During winter housing in 2024, group 2 will be fed on red clover silage. This will be produced on the farm and ensiled in a clamp separate to the other grass silage. The DLWG of the cattle will be monitored and a target of between 1 - 1.4 kg/day should be achieved.

Group 1 will continue to be managed as current practice and will be fed ad lib grass silage and up to 3kg/day of the 14% CP blend from October to December 2024 and increased to up to 5kg/day from January through to finishing in the spring.
