Climate Change and Livestock

Increasing concern about climate change has led to an increased need to mitigate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions produced by agriculture. GHGs absorb solar radiation and in doing so, heat the atmosphere. The terms ‘carbon footprint’ and ‘carbon emissions’ are used to describe GHG emissions, however, these are umbrella terms and are not limited to gases containing carbon such as carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4), but also other GHGs, such as nitrous oxides (N2O).
