Supporting new entrants into farming in Wales 

Start to Farm is designed to help new entrants get on the farming ladder. Whether you’re looking to gain practical experience, find a joint venture, or build your own farming business, Start to Farm offers tailored support to help you move forward with confidence. 

What you can access

  • Practical experience through structured work placements with host farms
  • Matching and facilitation to help landholders and land seekers explore joint ventures and partnerships
  • Make a plan - Fully funded business support up to £2750 per partner to explore and test business viability, develop a business plan and your understanding of collaborative farming ventures.
  • Reduce risk - Funding of up to £2000 per partner towards specialist advice to formalise legal agreements and contracts 

Support is matched to your needs — not everyone will access every element.

Start to Farm is for people building a career in farming, new entrants with limited access to land, and those interested in collaborative or joint‑venture approaches.
