Farm Information:

This is a unique opportunity to become part of a dairy farming business that farms approximately 270 acres and milks 240 cows in Carmarthenshire.

The business operates an autumn block-calving system, with a strong focus on grassland management and grazing. At present, the business rears its own youngstock and has an established milk supply contract.

A network of tracks has been established across the farm, along with an effective electric fencing system. A central water supply system is also in place.

Location: Carmarthenshire

Land:

  • A total of 272 acres is farmed.
  • Most of the land is owned by the provider, with a proportion being rented.

Infrastructure:

  • 24/48 Herringbone milking parlour.
  • Modern farm buildings.
  • Infrastructure that has been established for several years and enables the milking system to operate efficiently.

Livestock:

  • 240 dairy cows.
  • 100 youngstock; 50 of one year old calves, and 50 two-year-olds.

Machinery:

  • The essential machinery required to manage the farm is available, including a tractor, loader, quad bike and trailer.
  • Contractors are used for other work, such as silage making.

 

Accommodation:

In the short term, a bedsit-style unit is available on the farm, which would be suitable for temporary accommodation or for use during busy periods of the year.

In the longer term, there is a possibility that a suitable cottage/accommodation unit on the farm may become vacant in the future, and there could be an opportunity for the business partner to move into it.

 

Goals for the Next 5 Years:

Further develop herd performance through improvements in genetics and milk production.

Appoint a suitable individual to become part of the business and contribute to its development.

 

Type of Agreement Being Considered:

This opportunity will begin as a salaried position for the first few months before developing into a partnership agreement. Under this arrangement, the business's profits at the end of the year could be shared between the business partners.

 

Key Characteristics the Landowner is Looking for in a Business Partner:

  • An individual with the ability, commitment and right attitude to contribute to the development and improvement of the business.
  • Good communication skills and a willingness to hold regular meetings with the provider.
  • A Welsh-speaking individual or family would be welcome, although this is not an essential requirement.
