Good nutrition underpins flock health, productivity and profitability. This one-day Farming Connect MasterNutrition workshop is designed for sheep farmers who want to improve their understanding of practical, evidence-based sheep nutrition and apply it confidently within their own flock.
Delivered in a small group in an interactive format, the day will combine a morning of theory with practical activities focused on body condition scoring, diet planning, forage use, forage analysis, and measuring and monitoring diets. Farmers will explore how nutrition influences ewe performance, lamb growth, health, fertility and resilience, with practical discussion linked to different farm systems and feeding approaches.
What will the workshop cover?
• Why year-round body condition scoring and nutrition are important
• Balancing an optimum diet based on the farm’s system
• How to utilise different forages and feeding systems
• How to interpret forage analysis
• Measuring and monitoring diet
Delegates are encouraged to bring along a silage sample, and a forage analysis if they have one, to support practical discussion during the workshop. Sample material will also be available on the day so that topics such as dry matter intake and diet assessment can be explored in a hands-on way.
As the workshop will include an on-farm visit, delegates should wear appropriate clothing and bring clean, disinfectable footwear.
Who should attend?
This MasterNutrition workshop is suitable for sheep farmers who want to strengthen their technical knowledge, improve decision-making around feeding and flock management, and take practical ideas back to their own business.
Places are limited, and early application is encouraged.
