Choose the right name for your business

Llyn Bochlwyd and Llyn Idwal in Eryri

Choosing a name for your business is a creative and enjoyable process. It is also one that you need to get right. Customers may infer a lot from your business name and first impressions count.

While it may be tempting to try to stamp your individual personality on your business name, there are many other issues to consider.

Last year the Snowdonia National Park Authority committee, Members voted to use the Welsh names of Eryri (Snowdonia) and Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) in both Welsh and English contexts. A paper on Place Names Principles was also adopted as a guide for the Authority on the use of place names within the National Park. In order to safeguard and celebrate Welsh place names within the national park.

Having worked collaboratively with the National Park Authority and the School of Welsh at Cardiff University, the Welsh Language Commissioner has now recommended a standard list of Eryri’s lake names. At a meeting of the National Park Authority this week, members voted unanimously in favour of professing this standardised list.
