Introduction to business
Launched by Llinos Davies in Neath Port Talbot in July 2020, LD Hair & Bridal is a brand new hair salon specialising in all aspects of hairdressing, including men and women’s haircuts, colouring as well as wedding hairstyling.
Why did you decide to set up your own business?
I decided to start my own business after I came home from travelling. I had previously gained experience while working in a salon and decided to go for it on my own. This has always been something I wanted to do and it was the perfect time after having a break for my travels.
What challenges did you face?
The main challenge was that all of the main suppliers closed throughout lockdown, which made it very difficult to plan my expenditure and see what was available. Additionally, everyone was working from home, which made it very challenging to get hold of people. This included setting up accounts and sorting out important things like insurance, phone line, etc.
Business Wales support
Having secured premises for her hairdressing salon, Llinos approached Business Wales as she needed support to get the business off the ground. She attended a start-up workshop and received advice from a start-up specialist, Hywel Bassett, who helped her with business planning, cash flow forecasts and the legal aspects of starting a business.
Since the successful launch as lockdown restrictions were eased across the country, Llinos and Hywel have been working together to explore funding avenues to further grow the business.
Outcomes
- start-up support with business planning and financial forecasts
- successfully launched in July 2020
My adviser Hywel has been a great help. He always provides a fast response if I need any help or advice. It is reassuring to know that he is always just a phone call away.
Future plans and ambitions
My plans for the business include growing my wedding hair reputation and becoming known as one of the best in my field and in the area. I would also like to expand to a bigger salon.
