The Cultural Contract
The Cultural Contract builds on the Welsh Government’s Economic Contract, which is part of the Welsh Governments “Prosperity for All - Economic Action Plan” and is designed to enable the Welsh Government to develop a new and strengthened relationship with organisations and to drive inclusive growth and responsible behaviours, including increasing the availability of fair work and decarbonisation. It means that companies receiving support commit to a something for something approach that is built firmly on the principles of collaboration.
The cultural contract will ask that organisations supported through the Cultural Recovery Fund demonstrate a commitment to the four principles of:
- growth potential
- fair work
- promotion of health, including a special emphasis on mental health, skills, and learning in the workplace.
- progress in reducing carbon footprint
The cultural contract will view these headings through a cultural and creative lens, and will apply the principles in a proportionate and flexible way aligned to the unique circumstances and conditions in the cultural and creative industries.
It will consider areas such as:
- sector board diversity – gender, welsh language, BAME representation etc
- retained staff to support wider initiatives e.g. contact tracing to support Test, Trace, Protect
- social prescribing
- supporting health and arts initiatives
- climate reselience
