Learning activities
As a class discuss “How are we going to make our product?”
Introduce the concepts of resources and production. Explain the importance of working together and the value of each individual within the team.
In groups, agree and assign tasks and work stations to individuals or groups, emphasising their role in the team. This will be dependent on the product chosen but could include a production line arrangement e.g. cutting, assembling, packaging.
Set out the resources needed and ask the pupils to cooperate to make a prototype of the product.
Ask the pupils to discuss what they liked doing best, how they would share the jobs differently next time and what changes, if any, are needed to make a quality product.
Ask the pupils to consider:
- What do we need to make our product / provide our service?
- Which items do we have already?
- What things can we can recycle or get for free?
- What will we need to buy?
- Where will our work space be?
- When will we work on our project? (in class, at lunchtime, after school).
- Who can we get to help us? (parents/teachers/other pupils).
Learning outcome
Pupils will have experienced working in small groups to complete a task.
