After many years working in the computer sector - including leading teams of up to 100 people and managing profit-responsible roles across the UK -  he reached a turning point. The corporate world had become a cycle of profit, profit, profit, and the spark that once drove him began to fade. He wanted more than targets and margins; he wanted to use his skills to make a meaningful difference.

So, around 20 years ago, he made a bold decision: to step away from the corporate grind and become a Business Adviser. With a clear vision, he sketched out a business plan, registered as a sole trader with HMRC, and quickly realised the power of business networking in building a successful small business.

His inspiration came not from textbooks, but from lived experience. In his twenties, he co-founded a limited company with a colleague - a venture that taught him hard but valuable lessons about partnerships, planning, and knowing when to walk away. Later, he helped launch two computer businesses for group companies, and in the 1990s, he and his young daughter opened a retail running store that thrived for 24 years.

The path wasn’t always smooth. He faced challenges in marketing, inconsistent workloads, and the ever-changing landscape of the UK economy and technology. But he adapted, disrupted, and sought new markets - always learning, always evolving.

What he values most about being his own boss is the freedom to stay true to himself. No longer bound by corporate expectations, he can focus on delivering support where it’s genuinely needed.

Today, his areas of specialism reflect his passion for empowering others:

  • Mentoring on self-employment and business start-up
  • Advising and supporting social enterprise models

His work includes mentoring prisoners at HMP Berwyn in Wrexham, helping them plan for self-employment post-release, and collaborating with Wrexham University on social enterprise projects - earning him the Entrepreneurship Catalyst Facilitator Award in April 2025. He also supports carers through the Flintshire Micro Care programme, guiding them to become sole traders.

This is more than a business. It’s a mission to help others find their voice, build their future, and thrive on their own terms.
